Select and Adjust Backgrounds Suitable for Your Pages.

In this topic we will use Paint Shop Pro to adjust the backgrounds. You can download it by choosing Graphic Tools in my home page and get more information about graphic tools.

Brightness

The brightness of backgrounds must be suitable to text color. You can select Colors/Adjust/Brightness/Contrast to adjust its brightness. If the image is of 256 colors, use Colors/Increase Color Depths/16 Million Colors (24 bit) to transfer the image to be of true color mode because the filter of PSP work well only in true color mode.

Too much contrast of backgrounds makes the text hard to read. We can use Colors/Adjust/Brightness/Contrast to eliminate it. In most cases, Increasing (decreasing) contrast will make image brighter (darker). We may to decrease (increase) its brightness for compensation.

Saturation

Colorful background make text difficult to read. Choose Colors/Adjust/Hue/Saturation/Luminance and decrease the saturation of the background.

Texture Scale

In some patterns with spots, large texture scale makes the spots bigger and affect the reading of page content. If you can not get other texture with small scale, choosing Image/Resize to decrease the image size. This also reduces the image size and transfer it quickly on network.

Noise in background also affect reading. Choose Image/Normal filters/Soften or Blur to eliminate it.
